How Iconoklast turned the old master, locked away in galleries and private collections, into a piece you hang at home without ever buying it.
Contemporary art keeps its own legend alive: elitist, reserved for a few insiders, locked behind the price of a canvas or the doors of a gallery. Iconoklast, a Swiss start-up, set out to change the rules by offering art for rent rather than for sale. The brief wasn't just to make art accessible. It called for an identity with the same rigour as a genuine old master, one that could still speak to people who have never set foot in a gallery.
Renting, not owning
We replaced the price tag with desire. Owning a piece takes a budget, a space, an expertise. The result: art stays with the same people, on the same walls, forever.
Iconoklast introduces a rental model that's new to Switzerland. Artworks circulate, move from living room to living room, and find a fresh set of eyes every few months, no collector's credit card required. Art becomes a subscription, not an investment.
A brand built like a painting
We built the identity with the same logic as an old master: a frame, a gesture. A painting is structure (the canvas, the frame, the proportions, the composition) and gesture (the brushstroke, the material, the emotion). That dual reading guided the whole of Iconoklast's design. The Structure takes the shape of a precise modular grid and a geometric, disciplined Swiss typeface. It brings balance, stability, a rigour that's unmistakably Swiss. Emotion, meanwhile, comes through a more expressive, more human serif typeface, one that carries the sensitivity of the brushstroke and the warmth of the gaze.
An A as meeting point
We fit the whole concept into a single letter. In the logo, the A becomes the point of balance between frame and gesture, between structure and freedom. A simple mark, strong and alive, that sums up the brand's promise in a single stroke.
Fine Art Unlocked, a manifesto in three words
We went looking for a tagline. We found a manifesto. Fine Art Unlocked sums up Iconoklast's entire mission: free art, bring it to life, make it accessible to everyone. The campaign carries the idea further with minimalist posters, where every artwork finds a place in a home rather than on a museum wall. An identity that keeps its Swiss rigour while speaking to art lovers, young collectors and the simply curious.
Art Unlocked isn't a tagline. It's a promise kept.
