How Maison Balkii became a home for Geneva's nights. Maison Balkii started from a blank page: a new space in the heart of Eaux-Vives, conceived as a warm cocktail bar capable of shifting rhythm as the night wore on. Everything was still to be invented.
What maison really means
The word maison is everywhere in Maison Balkii. It's said so often it stops being heard. Yet a maison isn't a bar. It's a place you inhabit, a door you push open unannounced, somewhere you welcome people the way you'd welcome friends, not customers. We decided to take this word seriously. Just pass by. The most ordinary line in hospitality becomes the founding idea of the whole address. Because a house doesn't ask to be booked. It asks to be walked into, unannounced, the way you'd walk into your own home.
One seal, two lights
The medallion becomes more than a logo. It becomes the graphic system behind the whole identity. One shape, endless readings. By day, it's engraved in copper and deep red, like a house seal. By night, at Studio B, it turns black, ringed with a gradient that shifts from pink to violet, like an ember being fanned back to life. On the weekly flyers, it fades behind a halo of light. The rule stays simple: keep the same shape, never tell the same night twice.
The identity spills past the wall
The identity doesn't stay fixed to the sign. It leaves the façade and settles into ritual. The medallion turns up engraved on the cocktail menu, slipped onto coasters, cast in light across the stone wall. Studio B's line-up borrows the tone of an invitation from a friend rather than a press release. Bit by bit, the address works its way into Geneva's habits. It's no longer just the public coming to find the house. It's the house going out to find its people.
You don't go out, you stay in
The house metaphor carries through into the experience itself. A World Cup match gets watched the way you'd watch it at home, drink in hand, rather than in some anonymous sports bar. Regulars greet each other, raise a glass, settle in as if in a living room rather than on a terrace. Each week, Studio B announces its night the way you'd announce a party among friends: a name, a time, never a pitch. Every activation borrows a domestic ritual to invent a new way of going out.
One word, an entire hospitality
In the end, a single word became an entire territory. One graphic form was declined until it turned into a visual reflex, from Tuesday's cocktail to Studio B's last drink at 4am. An identity that doesn't just announce a bar, but turns every night into an act of hospitality. Maison Balkii no longer just receives customers in a bar. It receives guests in its own home.
