A law firm does not need to raise its voice to make its presence felt. For PBM, we looked beyond the traditional codes of Swiss law, drawing instead on Anglo-Saxon law firms: their confidence, their restraint, and the kind of spaces where every detail seems to have a purpose. A dark, precise identity, cut through with a flash of orange that is impossible to miss.
A touch of Baker Street in Switzerland
Dark wood, deep greys, subdued lighting, Venetian blinds and timeless furniture. PBM’s world borrows more from the atmosphere of a London law firm than from that of a traditional Swiss legal practice. But this was never about creating a set. The atmosphere reflects an attitude: a firm that favours control over display, precision over noise, and proximity over institutional coldness. Serious without being austere. Classic in its confidence, contemporary in its expression.
Three letters are enough
PBM. Three initials, plenty of space and nothing superfluous. The logotype follows the same principle of restraint. No legal symbols, no columns, no scales: the name is enough. The generous spacing between the letters gives it an almost architectural presence. It can sit discreetly on a business card or take over an entire wall without ever changing its tone. An identity that does not need to explain that it is serious. It simply behaves that way.
Like eyes in the dark
In this almost monochrome world, orange cuts straight through. Bright and precise, it is used sparingly so that it never loses its impact. Like a cat’s eyes appearing in the darkness, sometimes two points of light are enough to signal a presence. Orange plays that role for PBM. It draws the eye to an initial, a piece of information, a pencil resting on a desk. Against the greys and blacks, it becomes the detail you notice and, more importantly, the one you remember.
Law in chiaroscuro
The photography extends this atmosphere. Instead of the static portraits and perfectly lit meeting rooms typical of the sector, PBM is captured through reflections, movement, silhouettes and shadow. The lawyers appear within their environment, sometimes sharply defined, sometimes crossed by the movement of someone passing through the frame. The firm becomes almost cinematic. A way of bringing depth and humanity to a world that can easily become overly institutional, while retaining the sense of control expected from a law firm.
Presence over display
Ultimately, the entire system is built on contrast. A quiet yet recognisable identity. A dark palette punctuated by an almost electric colour. Classic elegance framed by radically simple graphic design.
